The region (home) location in Windows is used by various Windows services and third party apps to provide you country-specific information. For example, a news app can show you local news, and a weather app can utilize location information to provide you the actual weather forecast.
If you change your location, for example, you move to or visit some other country, you might need to re-configure your home location. Here is how it can be done.
Option 1. Use Control Panel to change the region option in Windows 10
- Press the Win+R keys on your keyboard and type “control” without quotes into the Run dialog. The Control Panel will appear on the screen:
- Click the icon Clock, Language, and Region.
- Click the icon Region.
- In the Region window, open the Location tab. Under “Home location” you can set a new region to be used in Windows 10.
Option 2. Use Settings to change the region option in Windows 10
- Press Win+I on your to open Settings.
- Go to the page Time & language
- There, select Region & language.
- On the right, use the option Country or region to change the region option in Windows 10.
Option 3. Use a Registry tweak to change Region and home location in Windows 10
- Press the Win+R keys to open Run.
- Type regedit and press Enter to open the Registry Editor app.
- Go to the following key path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International\Geo
- In the right, double click the Nation string parameter to change its value as shown below:
- Enter the new geographical location ID using the appropraite number from the provided table below for the desired country and region:
